United adding summer flights from Midwest to Southeast, East Coast vacation destinations

United Airlines said Thursday it is adding seasonal nonstop flights from Midwest airports to leisure destinations in the East and Southeast.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day weekend, United said in a statement that it will add flights from Midwest cities, including Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; Milwaukee; St. Louis; and Pittsburgh, to vacation hot spots in South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Maine.

The seasonal flights, which will be offered a few times a week, bypass United's megahubs and are part of a trend in which airlines are adding leisure destinations as pandemic-weary Americans, millions of them now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, look to travel after being stuck at home for more than a year. Meanwhile, business travel remains in a depression.
